After some rock weeks, let’s bring the funk back to our lives and I couldn’t find anything better than this bloody amazing track.
Just… Just…. Just listen to that beginning… Drummer counting, Bass with the best groove setting the atmosphere, background keys completing the scenario. Later drums building up a bit more and strings for the explosion.
Just beautiful, just funky, just perfect.
There’s something about Jamiroquai discography that makes it brilliant to listen and re-listen to it from time to time. It’s full of hidden gems. Sometimes it can sound repetitive, but there’s always a detail, an arrangement, a different instrument, always something that makes it completely different when listen to it again.
This happened to me 3 weeks ago with this song. Working on a project at a theatre, I found myself having to solder 1200 cables into little LED medallions (20 to be precise and the cables were too thick). So music was going to be my yoga zen meditation and whatever else that can keep me calm but in a good rhythm. On my 4th day just soldering, I put on spotify a shuffle play of Jamiroquai refreshing my joy for his music. All I was listening was the same as time ago. Maybe dancing a bit as it not part of my daily listening music, but no more than that. So as music does to people who love it, it gives us something great when we are not expecting it.
This song appeared.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I knew this song by watching him live and it’s a great song, but never heard the album version. It was an instant complete distraction, burned myself, swared, turned off everything, play the song again, moving my head, standing up and start dancing with the explosion of the song. And then I just became the nightmare of my wife as till today I can’t stop playing this song dance it as like there’s no other great song to dance.
I honestly consider him to be the King of Funk. He clearly is not because he came pretty late in the funk history, but for god sake all the jewels and gems he gave to funk deserves a big title as king of funk. He will be the king for me as his music introduced me to funk and he add his own original touch to his music which makes most of his production a magnificent gift to music.
Ladies and gentlemen please (well… you’ll miss it if not) enjoy this week Mr. Jamiroquai!!!

About the curator - Rodrigo Medrano
At a very early age, music had an incredible impact on Rodrigo’s life. He was never able to listen to lullaby songs; instead he was served Guns n’ Roses and Aerosmith for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
At the age of 12, he became a melomaniac, collecting albums, EP’s, recording sessions, and researching every kind of genre. All this helped him to get his first job at a recording studio where he realized his life would forever revolve around sound and music.
Working on cruise ships as First Audio Technician allowed him to let loose his passion and expand his knowledge on psychoacoustics, eventually promoted up to being in charge of sound for the hit broadway shows: Rock of Ages and Burn The Floor.
His music library will never stop growing as his melomania will get worse and worse.
