BJ The Chicago Kid and Anderson .Paak team up to create a soulful blend of hip-hop and r&b. In Anderson .Paak's verse, he raps about how much he appreciates the childhood and adolescent years with his family despite the financial hardships they went through.
"The weed's too potent so I had to call mama / Tell her how much I love her for cookin' them home products / When them bills would pile up, cereal with the water / If Lord couldn't help us, we had Hamburger Helper."
"But I'm 'bout to board this plane, I can't wait to see your face and hear you say."
After Anderson's verse, BJ The Chicago Kid delivers a solid hook to end the song. In the hook, BJ essentially describes the feeling of being at a black family cookout.
"Come on in, close the door and feel the vibe / We got macaroni and cheese, collard greens and chicken inside / Can't forget the cornbread / Talkin' shit with the old heads / Mama dancin' to some Al Green."
BJ's imagery on that hook is phenomenal since it feels like I am being transported to his family cookout. Additionally, the joyful tone in BJ's vocals conveys his love for his family and the fond memories of the cookouts.
The groovy yet surreal production on this track is credited to M Millz and Danja. The pleasant bass guitar rhythm and funky drum pattern set a strong foundation for the track. Also, the hazy synths and sound effects of children give the track a feeling of nostalgia, which enhances BJ's lyricism. Lastly, the trumpet sounds are a nice touch and give the track more soul.
Overall, "Feel The Vibe" is the perfect summer picnic/cookout song with great vocal performances and excellent music production.
