Jericho Jackson is a Detroit duo made up of producer Khrysis and rapper Elzhi. The two have had long careers individually and finally came together to release this collaboration this year. A friend hipped me to the group and I instantly connected with the music. Each song on the self-titled album viscerally explores topics such as Elzhi's sporadic releases due to personal struggles, reality versus illusion, love, self-doubt, and fake friends.
"To Do List" details Elzhi's personal and professional goals over Khrysis' slightly sped up version of The Rimshots "Revelation." The dark strings over the boom bap beat lay a pensive foundation for Elzhi's sentimental and earnest revelations. He addresses his long hiatus and the fans who may have doubted his ability to follow through: "I'm just trying to do what I set out to do." Any artist can empathize with the stories that Elzhi so honestly portrays.
