This cover of a Sister Sledge tune had me grooving and feeling carefree from the first listen. I admit I had never heard of New Zealand-based multi-instrumentalist producer, engineer and DJ Lord Echo (aka Mike Fabulous) before, nor had I heard the original Sister Sledge song. But I could tell Lord Echo's version was a glorious mashup of reggae and R&B/disco, and I immediately loved the groove of this summery love song.
Sister Sledge released their song in 1979, and it definitely stands the test of time. . Lord Echo's version, released on the 2010 "Melodies" album, is slightly slower, with a simpler reggae bass line. The original version, produced by Niles Rodgers has a funkier, more rhythmically intricate bass line. "Thinking of You" will surely have you on your feet, celebrating life and love, and leaving your cares behind.
