Renowned London jazz drummer Yussef Dayes was, until recently, best known for his contributions to the highly acclaimed "Black Focus" album from duo Yussef Kamaal. Dayes has since teamed up with producer and keyboardist Alfa Mist to bring us his debut single "Love is the Message," released last month.
Dayes' signature heavy groove and polyrhythmic fills smoothly complement Alfa Mist's synth expressions. The track slowly ebbs and flows until just past the mid point of the song, when guitarist Mansur Brown builds tension with a funk guitar solo. The rhythmic interplay, contemplative tone, musicality and presence of the musicians on this track will remind you to stay focused on its message. I personally cannot wait to hear more from Yussef Dayes and his collaborators.
