Hi, hello and welcome snazzy music lovers. I present to you this week a window into the inner workings of Mild Orange. I am fairly certain they're cool with it if we just take a quick peek inside. These mellow kiwi fellows have a beautiful ability to share simple words and sounds with a truly relatable and meaningful message to go along with it. Anyone or anything that is able to awaken some of the most raw and emotional experiences of love amongst our human existence in such a way is worth listening to. In retrospect, I have never felt the desire to assume what songs are “really” about. Sure, you can gather a lot of the artists truths from their music but in the end we are always going to take what we need from the music and move right along with our lives. I encourage this but also want us to remember the people behind your favorite tune. Always respect the process that someone has gone through to place their innermost feelings out in the open for all to absorb. Consume rather than assume is a nice way to put it eh?
With all that being said, the track Selfish Lover spoke to me the most at this particular time of my life. Ah yes my friends, the special experience of being stuck in a limbo of mixed signals and messy feelings. It is slowly protruding into all aspects of my life and really pushing some emotional boundaries. Not to say that this is something that needs to be thought of as an unwanted experience. I believe it is a particularly important experience to go through as gently as possible. Getting used to being uncomfortable is both liberating and confining but ultimately worth the discomfort if you choose to trust in the process.
The whole point of sharing that very vulnerable piece of myself stems from this 4 minute and 44 second song. With every song that enters your life, I encourage you to take the time and have a think about why you were so drawn to it at this particular moment. I truly believe that the music we discover comes to us rather than us actually seeking it out. Sure it sounds kind of wacky, but honestly, think about all the times you have searched for music to gain some sort of insight into your state of mind. In the end that music was available to you in whatever capacity you needed it. It is like hearing your wedding song come on the radio after a fight with your partner. The music you need to hear will emerge for you when most needed.
So basically, thank you Mild Orange for allowing me to marinate in your lovely thoughts and flow through this experience with a truly beautiful record by my side.

About The Curator - Maria Fish
You can most often find Maria in her garden humming along to an eclectic playlist titled “Life’s a Garden, Dig It” and of course tending to her beloved plants. This garden is located on the island of Kaua’i at her childhood home surrounded by tropical fruit trees and flowers. Beautiful music has always gone hand in hand with the beauty of the island. Just as she nurtures her plants, she looks forward to nurturing this playlist and the community of music lovers that feel like stopping by and having a listen.
