This week’s track, “Loose Rap” by the late Aaliyah, is a tribute to the singer who died 18 years ago this week, on August 25, 2001. Her soul reached millions as she sang her way to become the Princess of R&B. This song in particular was part of her self-titled album, which was unfortunately her last. It immediately starts with a chill vibe and continues with the words of confrontation.
“Loose Rap” was meant to give a message to the haters who may have issues with you. Let them know that what they may do or say about you cannot faze you. At the end of the song she says “If you just quit trying to compete, no telling what you could be
You might even be doper than me, I doubt it”. She gives those who are filled with jealousy some word of advice to focus on themselves to be successful. Whether you’re hating or being hated on, it’s best to not spend time worrying about someone else. Aaliyah’s sweet voice and messages will be remembered throughout history. May she rest in peace.
