“Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra (BGKO) is a band created in 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. The band draws on many musical influences, including Klezmer music, Jazz Manouche, and Roma music. BGKO also explores the sounds of some Eastern European regions and draws inspiration from music in the regions of South America, Spain, and the Middle East. In 2015 the band changed its name in Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra, keeping BGKO as acronym.”
This song, is performed by the band but its in Turkish. The song carries its Balkan and Middle Eastern sounds but synthesizes them with the language of Anatolia. The clever use of instruments and the delicate vocals make the track stand out from the album. Personally, when I listen to this song, I feel like I’m flying on top of the Balkans with a magic carpet. My magic carpet lands on Istanbul and I get a transfer to a ferry, I’m now crossing the Bosphorus!

About the curator - Ada Bayramoglu
Ada is a high schooler from İstanbul who cannot be seen without her headphones. She is a “support your local” kind of girl who knows all the best places to drink coffee in her hometown. Her subconscious is full of “Turkish Classical Music”, which she has been listening to since she was born. She likes everlasting conversations with her friends about music and art. If you don’t know where she is just look at the nearest concert hall and she’ll be there.
