Kiran Leonard is only 22, but his music has a depth and a whimsy to it only rivaled by his unconventional structure. Also, in spite of his age he’s released A LOT of music, impressive for someone so young.
This song, “Living With Your Aliments,” has captured my attention some time last year, because of the heartfelt way Leonard sings the song. It begins with the staccato of a piano and the rest of the arrangements is very limited. We have a couple of strings, but otherwise it’s only Leonard and his voice critically taking on, well… lack of faith, chaos, anonymity and doubt and everything that makes life feel incomplete.
I’m not a religious person at all, so seeing the music video being set to a lot of religious imagery was kind of alien to me. But in the end, the song still resonates, not only because of Leonard’s beautiful voice, but also because of the message of the song. Wherever you find faith, be it in God or yourself or music or even the flying spaghetti monster, that’s what drives you. That’s what makes you conquer mountains and brave these frightening and wonderfully weird times.

About the curator - Julia Maehner
Julia knows two main passions: Music and writing. From an early age she has been making music after a fashion. When she was 13, she sat herself down and decided: “I will be a music journalist. Because I love music and writing.” After a brief intermezzo in New York City working for the music boutique agency Girlie Action as a digital marketer, she moved back to Germany. This experience helped her build her know-how for her marketing client, the IT company .objective Software. She still writes for several German music magazines and is working on launching her own blog, amps on ears.
