The holidays can be a time for wonder, joy, rebirth and all that wonderful shit. But they can also seem dark, depressing, and a reminder of everything we feel we're missing. For Sarah McLachlan, it's both, as she sings of her lost love, and their imaginary Christmas day together.
Our track today is a stripped down ballad from the Canadian singer-songwriter: "Wintersong". The song is an original nestled in between classic covers on her 2006 holiday album, and it stands out as a rare and charming holiday soundtrack. As Slant Magazine writes, "Wintersong is a seasonal showcase for McLachlan’s cathedral-ready soprano wrapping itself around soaring hymns and autumnal pop songs." It's the perfect track to comfort you this lonely holiday season, or to put on in the background when you're feeling festive, but if you're trying to stay positive, don't listen to the words too closely!
