This week is a shameless plug. I’ve been playing with Aurora Sect for a few years and we started getting some momentum with making some new music before the world shut down last year. A handful of songs are getting ready to be released and the first track with me on bass, “To Sea”, came out last week. Check it out and enjoy.

After a little break I’m back with a gem from one of my favorite albums. King Crimson changed the way I listen to music and always feels like home when I go back.
11 March 2021
I can’t stop listening to this record. There is no fat on it and it has everything I love about music. “Organ Farmer” is just plain rad.
4 March 2021
I love this band and their new record started off with a laugh I needed this week. A great take a on a classic song.
26 February 2021
Brian is a close friend and an amazing singer and songwriter. I’m glad to be able to include him on my playlist and love this record.
18 February 2021
RIP Chick Corea. A great song from an incredible band.
3 February 2021
I grew up listening to a ton of Motown, it’s part of me. The Supremes were one of my earliest memories of a singing group and still a favorite. So, in honor and memory of founding member Mary Wilson this week’s track is “My World Is Empty Without You”. So many of their songs are part of my DNA and this is one I have always loved. Enjoy!
27 January 2021
Elbrus has a great vibe, kind of a mix of folk, 60s blues rock, and modern stoner metal. If you’re a fan of Cream and Black Sabbath you should check them out.
19 January 2021
One of the first post rock bands that made me fall in love with the genre was Pelican. This week’s track “Immutable Dusk” came out in 2013 and was an instant favorite. I’ve been diving into some of the music that has inspired me over the last nine years and couldn’t go without sharing this one with you all.
13 January 2021
This week’s track is “War” by Edwin Starr. He had a handle full of hits and this is one that I’ve always dug and feels totally appropriate with the state of the world. Not only is it a great message but it funks hard and just makes you want to shake it.
6 January 2021
This is one of those songs that as I dug deeper into it found so much to chew on and have grown to appreciate as an understated masterpiece. Give it a listen and as usual…turn it up!!!
29 December 2020
“Black Sabbath” is the song that kicks off Black Sabbath’s debut album and ushered in the heavy metal movement. Who knows where music would be without this song, good thing we never need to find out.
22 December 2020
What stands out about this one is the riff and groove that closes out the last two minutes, just plodding and pulsing in stoner glory. When I talk to someone about heavy, this is what I’m talking about.
15 December 2020
Eleven days ago was the five year anniversary of Scott Weiland’s death and I’ve been contemplating adding some of his solo work to the playlist for some time.
7 December 2020
This week I want to feature a current band that is new to me and I’m super into. Warpaint is a Los Angeles based quartet of super talented women and I am loving exploring their music and learning more about them.
30 November 2020
It’s an odyssey of sorts starting off with a mellow groove and builds to their signature hard rock stomp that just begs to be cranked to eleven.
25 November 2020
I was late to the table but King’s X has become a huge favorite and influence on me as a musician in the last few years. No one sounds like them or is able mesh heaviness, groove, soul, and Beatles-esque harmonies in such a seamless way.
16 November 2020
The music is hard and riff laden and lead singer Emma matches them with her powerful and dynamic vocals. I also really dig how the bassist utilizes fuzz on some of the meatier sections to add to the heaviness.
11 November 2020
The band melds every instrument and vocal together with precision and both power and delicacy with their unique sound and counterpoint. I dare you not to finish to whole album after hearing this track.
3 November 2020
I love the groove and heaviness of this song and somehow a sort of sad sweetness as well. You know when a song just hits that spot? Well this one does for me.
27 October 2020
Goatsnake is one of my favorite stoner metal bands and their first record is classic in my eyes. It’s big, loud, and super heavy yet soulful and groovy. Every song is amazing so it was hard to pick just one.
20 October 2020
“Growing Up Boys” is kind of a psychedelic spacey ballad and perfect for a chill mood. If you’re into music that sounds like a modern day spaced out synthy British invasion thing then check Wand out. You won’t be sorry.
12 October 2020
The first Van Halen album was a game changer for me. “On Fire” has always been one of my favorite VH songs and hearing it again made it a must for the playlist. It’s classic VH and has everything that makes them great.
5 October 2020
This week’s track “Cougars, Not Kittens” is a brutal riff laden jaunt full of everything that makes this band a new favorite of mine. There’s no fat or superfluous wanking, just straight forward killer hard as fuck rock.
29 September 2020
“Maria También” is super funky and a great showcase of their soulful mix of Asian inspired funk, surf, and soundtrack-esque textures.
22 September 2020
It’s nearly impossible to pick one song from this record, they all kill. Hand of Doom is not one of the “hits” but always stuck out for me and is a favorite of mine.
15 September 2020
It opens with soundscapes and atmosphere before kicking into a massive stoner rock gallop at 2:30 and doesn’t look back. There is nothing about this song I don’t love and it’s been on heavy rotation all week.
8 September 2020
This week’s track is “Firecracker” the second song off their debut record from 1978. It’s a funky combination of disco esque pop with a big dose of traditional Asian themes and melodies. It’s a quirky, weird, and super fun song that always makes me smile and remember why I love music.
1 September 2020
The title of this week’s track says it all. There is a lot going on in the world and it’s hard to not get angry, it’s also a great time to support each other and make some intense but needed changes.
