Following your friends on music streaming platforms can be quite rewarding. Stumbling upon Alfa Mist was one of the better things that came out of it.
Hip-hop jazz is my latest obsession. Mist's Antiphon is a breakaway from his other work, into the genre. The album is a treat beyond measure - one cannot stop after the first song. The cool sounds, touched with melancholy and reflectiveness come together to create an album rich in sound, composition and thought.
Keep On is the first track of the album. It sets the stage in many ways for what is to follow. The soft vocals in the background as the song begins give way to an exciting arrangement. To me, the tandem that the piano and saxophone work in is particularly special: like two extremes of emotions being expressed in juxtaposition to each other. What comes, as a result, is a wholesome sound: one that you can get lost in, or perhaps find yourself in.
If you are in need of comfort, put on Alfa Mist's Keep On.
