One of my all time favorite funk songs! A perfect blend of funk, jazz, soul, and r&b.
Funkin' for Jamaica by Tom Browne was and still is a staple song for any good time party. Anytime you want to bring some classic funk into your functions this is the track to pull out; guaranteed crowd favorite!
Funkin' for Jamaica (N.Y.) is a 1980 single by jazz trumpeter Tom Browne. The song is a memoir of the neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens where Browne was born and raised. The song begins with a pretty cool intro with the fellas chatting it up over a funky jazz intro and then followed by the beautiful vocals of Toni Smith. The intro of this track is probably the most important, because it let’s you know that this track is all about have a good time. I love a unique intro that captures the lingo of a specific time and this track is nothing but pure fun and good vibes!
With this warm weather and summer and approaching, this is a track I want you to add to your bbq playlists. If you don't believe just take a listen and FUNK OUT!
