A favorite remake of mine. Originally recorded by Tammi Terrell in 1966, but most notably known by Stevie Wonder, on his 1980’s classic album “Hotter than July.” This performance of “All I Do” was recorded by Kirk Whalum on his 1998 album “For You.”
Kirk Whalum, is a Grammy award winning jazz saxophonist and songwriter hailing from Memphis, TN with a career spanning over thirty years. I personally felt that this playlist needed a touch of contemporary jazz with some familiarity. And this track delivers! Make no mistake, covering a Stevie Wonder classic is no easy task, but Whalum’s rendition surly gets my vote as one of the best Stevie covers! Whalum’s melodic sax is soul stirring shared with Wendy Moten’s vocal display of heart and sincerity, this track is graceful, passionate, and spine tingling! This track definitely belongs on this playlist!
Not a jazz lover?? That’s ok. I wasn’t either at one time. But I offer this track as a possibility of how wonderful something different can be. A possibility that the warmth in this track has a constant thread which connects all songs on this playlist present and future. So go ahead and give it a spin! You might find out you like more than you think! ;)
