New Jersey native singer-songwriter and producer Jeremy Zucker wowed listeners with the release of his hit track “talk is overrated” featuring blackbear in the summer of 2017. Mostly making music in the indie/alternative genre, Zucker ventured a little out of his box in his collaboration with blackbear. Now verging more on the side of indie electro-pop, this track draws out a situation where two people, both unsure of what they want out of a relationship, overcomplicate it with feelings and decide to go for a no-strings attached, no feelings relationship instead.
Jeremy Zucker, who produces all of his music himself, is known for his elaborate and clean production. In the song “talk is overrated”, the track starts out with swaying synths and a hodgepodge of clicks, knocks, and a sound that resembles a zipper being undone. Rather than being a sensory overload though, the arrangement works in a way that instead transports listeners into Zucker’s dark, isolating, and almost therapeutic world. His sporadic use of bass and sparkling synths always keeps listeners on their toes and contributes to an underground feeling closely matching the art of the idle EP cover.
Jeremy Zucker is also known for his unforgettable melodies with the simplest of lyrics, as is the case with “talk is overrated.” Though the lyricism can sometimes air on the side of being too broad or vague, Zucker’s words always end up resonating with listeners because they’re extremely relatable. On the other hand though, the rap section of this track, since it highlights the lyricism, is very specific and draws out a conversation blackbear has with the aforementioned love interest. As in any great track, Zucker and blackbear fabricate and expose a story close to them and proceed to blur it out for all to relate to. The pairing of Zucker’s sweet melodies and intricate production style with blackbear’s swagger in his rapping makes “talk is overrated” the ultimate collaboration.

As an 18 year old who just moved to New York City to study Music Business at NYU, I’m constantly finding myself in unfamiliar territory and have come to realize I’m not going to settle in anytime soon. So, while I’ve been exploring the city and growing from each experience, I’ve racked up a pretty extensive list of the best music I’ve come across and want to keep sharing this art with you. When I'm not discovering and sharing new music though, I'm writing and creating my own music to share with the world. In fact, I’m working on releasing my debut EP right now!
