In this week’s sweet and lighthearted track, Corinne Bailey Rae sings to those over-working from trying to navigate through life’s confusions and peculiarities. She addresses the individual burdening themselves over trying to live up to society’s expectations and unrealistic standards of how they should hold themselves together. Her resolution is as simple as letting your hair down, being yourself and choosing to fully embrace the beauty that lies within and shines outwards.
For example, as much as we may want to, some days we just can’t channel our inner “Feeling Myself.” For those not a fan of Queen Bey, simply put, some days we have trouble seeing our beauty. But you don’t see yourself when you’re singing along to your favorite song. You don’t see yourself when you’re describing to someone something you’re really passionate about or when you’re immersed in your favorite thing to do. In her song, Corinne Bailey Rae is like the sister and the friend that notices those things, she pays attention and actually sees you in a way you fail to see yourself.
Perhaps putting your records on means looking inwards and tapping into your own dreams and aspirations instead of getting distracted or caught up in what everyone else is telling you to do. Do what you want to.
Or it could be that absolutely nothing in your life seems to be making any sense. Or you’re caught second-guessing all your decisions. Or you literally don’t know what the heck you’re doing (me!!!). This song has one last gentle reminder. “You’re gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.”

About The Curator - Jordan Yutan
Jordan finds joy in simple things like brunch, naps on the grass, and long car rides with the music on high. Her version of fun consists of dance parties, movie marathons and – of course – karaoke. Music has been such a key part in shaping her spirituality. She believes the first time she felt God reaching out to her was through a song and that still happens time and time again. She sees music as a vessel to vulnerability and will gladly invite anyone to listen, but especially wants to hear the songs in their own hearts. She dreams of visiting cafés all across the world, and meeting all kinds of people over a cup of coffee. But for now, she’s making the most out of college, soaking up the sun in her beautiful campus of UC Santa Barbara.
