The new year is symbolic of a new start, change, something different. We can if we want to, imagine that anything can happen, or if that is too much to believe, we can ask ourselves to take one step in a new direction, just one.
This world, and life, gives us many symbolic new beginnings. Each day with the morning sun, we can, literally see things in a new light. Even each moment is a new beginning. We are constantly in a process of change, just because we are here, our age, our mood, the things we look at and see are always changing. When we feel stuck, we can look around us, to see that change is possible.
Melody Gardot began again, one step at a time. She was hit by a car while riding her bicycle, lucky to survive, she was bedridden in a hospital for over a year. Plagued with ailments and pain, Melody began writing songs from her hospital bed. A suggestion to try and heal the pathways in her brain, to help regain more of its function, for walking, thinking and talking. Slowly Melody began to learn these things again, and found a real healing in her music.
This seemingly small step in a new direction, has led Melody to a find, and live a passion. Melody Says "It was a most unusual start, but when you come from a place where things are tough, it makes it that much easier to appreciate the times when life is easy”.
This song Morning Sun, is about a new beginning, the beginning of a child’s life her in this world.
About 15 years ago someone told me that it was ok to dream. I didn’t realise until that moment, that I didn’t believe I could. It made me sad to think, that someone didn’t believe that they could dream. I thought about that for a long time, a few years. I came to understand, that I could dream, I just hadn’t allowed myself to do it.
I met a new friend a year or so ago. When I met him, he knew that his time here was limited, even more than yours or mine. I didn’t spend much time with him, but I learned much. He was present, in his life, and with those around him.
Thankfully, I was present enough to see the joy he had, he was so happy to be alive. I remember sitting at a table in a restaurant with him and other friends, we were at opposite ends. He looked at me across the table and said “Look around Erin, life is…..Magic”. This message was, and is very powerful.
Sometimes we wait for things to happen to us, and sometimes we make them happen for us.
My friend died yesterday, happy to be alive, and, I hope, at peace in death, thank you my friend. And really it is a new beginning for my friend too.
I believe that messages are around us all the time, sometimes we miss them. I don’t want you to miss this message from Melody Gardot “This world was made for dreaming, this world was made for you”.
I wish you a happy and new, new year.

About the Curator: Erin Murray
Erin, a Mother of 1 little man and wife to 1 big man has learnt much about herself in the past few years. After moving from the city to the bush (near the Ocean), there weren’t as many distractions as she had become accustomed to, in a smaller community she lost her anonymity and slowly began to become aware of herself, her feelings, the life she had created for herself and her relationships with others. Seeking change from the feelings and behaviors which had become her normal, she sought out methods to do just that. Slowly at first, then a bit more and a bit more she is becoming aware of what she actually wants for herself and has begun removing the things that aren’t that, inside and out. Learning about faith (not religionJ), fun and how to be gentle with herself and others along the way.

How does wisdom come to us? How do we become, wise?
We are so many versions of ourselves in a lifetime. Can we see each version and honour it, thank it and move on? Knowing that each version brought us to here and now, knowing that we did the best we could at the time, and if we didn’t we learnt from it…
