I think I could write a thesis on this song, layered with message and metaphor. It is beautiful, harsh and thought provoking. Each time I listen, I hear something new.
This version is remastered, I remember listening to the original on repeat, from the Sugar Mountain, Live at Canterbury House 1968 album. Thinking, “Right on Brother”, he knows where it’s at. The imagery is enough to keep you interested, and then you start to wonder……
Is he dreaming? On drugs? Or just telling tales of things he has come across, in this life, and perhaps others before now???
Some people hold beliefs in which all “time”, is happening now. What did you just say? Yeah that’s right, time, is flexible, and only a perception. When first hearing this, I tried to understand and analyse it. I stopped trying to work this out, when my brain literally felt like, it had to get bigger, to fit this idea into it.
I liked this idea, of time, something which seemed so concrete, so governing, was just another idea….so I started looking into it, it took me about a year to fully absorb. I say absorb, not understand, as I don’t think these things are to be understood completely. Maybe, trying to understand things like this, takes away from our other capabilities, and senses.
I do believe this idea, and have played around enough with it to know, that, like our brain, time is also plastic. Things that have happened in the “past”, do not have to be concrete or governing. Our stories can change too, a memory creates a belief, creates a perspective. This perspective, is our reality.
So, if all time is happening now, that means you can revisit your memories, as if they are happening now. Seeing a memory from the past, and changing it in your mind, choosing a different outcome, might just change your perception in the now.
I unlocked my mind you know? To see what I could see……
What can you see?

About the Curator: Erin Murray
Erin, a Mother of 1 little man and wife to 1 big man has learnt much about herself in the past few years. After moving from the city to the bush (near the Ocean), there weren’t as many distractions as she had become accustomed to, in a smaller community she lost her anonymity and slowly began to become aware of herself, her feelings, the life she had created for herself and her relationships with others. Seeking change from the feelings and behaviors which had become her normal, she sought out methods to do just that. Slowly at first, then a bit more and a bit more she is becoming aware of what she actually wants for herself and has begun removing the things that aren’t that, inside and out. Learning about faith (not religionJ), fun and how to be gentle with herself and others along the way.

How does wisdom come to us? How do we become, wise?
We are so many versions of ourselves in a lifetime. Can we see each version and honour it, thank it and move on? Knowing that each version brought us to here and now, knowing that we did the best we could at the time, and if we didn’t we learnt from it…
