WARNING: This song will make you its own slave and force you to put it on repeat the entire day. You have been warned!
“Try” is Caren Tevanny’s latest single, and is a testament that rock music will never die! This genre always had an infamous stereotype of being loud and full of angst. However, the track breaks that stereotype as it is light on the ears with a powerful inspirational message. It talks about the truths of failure, acceptance, and the value of resilience when you’re at your lowest. Quitting is never an option, all you have and need to do is TRY.
The band is comprised of Caren Tevanny on lead guitars, synths and main vocals (side note - I love General Luna, and one of the main reasons I listen to them is Caren’s sick guitar licks). James Mollo drives the melody through his awesome and catchy guitar riffs and backup vocals. YP Raneses handles the bass guitar and gives their music a beefier sound, and Mac Ty on drums serves as their backbone through his unique beats.
The track as a whole is well written and arranged in a way that it could be appreciated by all sorts of audiences, even those who aren’t into the genre. The vocals are clear and haunting, from the lows to the highs. The riffs and licks will make you want to bob your head, and at times you will find yourself unconsciously strumming an invisible guitar. The basslines provided a thick layer to the song, one that envelops and hugs your ears. The drum pattern was simple, yet creative. I love how the beats transition from a telephone effect to a normal drum sound, as it made the song interesting. The inclusion of the Trap-beat hi-hats added flavor, and is genius!
The Pinoy Indie scene is filled with an assortment of artists and genres, but Caren Tevanny’s distinct sound make them stand out. I am always in awe of artists who take risks by experimenting with sound and styles as I do, because it highlights pure creativity and flexibility. The band is no stranger to this and their music is solid proof of it. This quality coupled with the band members’ diversity, is what sets them apart from the rest. Their musical journey as a band is worth tuning into.

About the Curator - Nik Abat
Nik is an Engineer, an Indie Artist, and a Music Producer from the Philippines. He fell in love with Music when he learned how to play the guitar and started to write songs when he was 11. He sings and plays all the instruments on all the tracks he produces. His music revolves around the Alternative Rock genre (slightly favoring a more "movie soundtrack" vibe, with the occasional ambient sounds, synths, and screams/growls on the side), mixed with new elements as he loves to experiment with sound.
He wears a mask and never shows his face to his audience, as he believes that you need not a face to make a difference. He is an advocate of Indie Music, and constantly promotes Indie Artists in the Philippines. He is always down to collaborate, and can be reached via Spotify, Instagram, and Facebook.
