Shout out to Maria Fish, from Music to Explore Everything, for another brilliant track recommendation for the picnic playlist. "Nevada" is a jazz-infused r&b paradise created by Canadian singer-songwriter, Tommy Paxton-Beesley (AKA River Tiber). With this 2019 single, River Tiber proved to be a jack of all trades by being responsible for the vocals and most of the instrumentation on the track. The overall musical production on "Nevada" is very entrancing and dreamlike, which works well with River Tiber's smooth vocal performance. It is shocking how the vast amount of instruments like the subtle bass guitar, jazzy vibraphone, rhythmic drums, and more were precisely layered by Paxton-Beesley to create a fantastic listening experience. Additionally, the ethereal and relaxing instrumental complements the sounds of nature on a sunny day, which makes "Nevada" a perfect song to play during a picnic.
In the song lyrics, River Tiber expresses a theme of finding love in the most unlikely places, and how that shouldn't make anyone feel hesitant. Even if you happen to find love in Las Vegas, which Paxton-Beesley poetically refers to as a "desert" and "city of confessions."
"I fell in love in the middle of the desert / In a city of confessions (in a city of confessions) / I wasn't looking and that's always how it happens / Yeah, that's always how it happens (yeah, that's always how it happens)."
Based on the lyrics of the song, it seems like River Tiber believes in living in the present moment and does not like to overthink, especially when it comes to dating. Interestingly enough, River Tiber's message of "going with the flow" matches the vibe of the chill and trippy musical production perfectly. Overall, "Nevada" is a chill r&b track with a poetic theme about living life in the present moment, and a great addition to the picnic playlist.
