The newest addition to the playlist this week comes from the dynamic St. Louis hip-hop artist, Smino. "Netflix and Dusse" features a perfect genre blend of reggae, R&B, and hip-hop that sounds amazing, especially on a sunny day during a picnic. The rhythmic reggae instrumental cooked up by Monte Booker (he is absolutely brilliant too) just makes you want to move. However, Smino steals the show with his charismatic and fresh performance.
Smino's ability to find pockets on the reggae production is unmatched. Also, its impossible to get bored of the song as Smino switches his flow and vocal inflection multiple times throughout the track. While this record may feature the common theme of an artist trying to seduce a woman, it is done in a very innovative fashion with creative melodies and bars that I have never heard before (which is an accomplishment regarding the current state of hip-hop). This cut was on his 2017 release, Blkswn. However, I encourage readers that enjoyed this song to listen to his latest project, NOIR, as it features more creative and energetic performances.

About The Curator - Mussie Fitsum
I am a student at the University of Maryland, College Park where I am studying Criminal Justice and Criminology with a minor in International Development and Conflict Management. After college, I want to get my law degree and practice criminal law. I am also a big music lover that listens to r&b, hip-hop, rock, reggae, and pop. But, I am also trying to expand my taste in music as much as I can to appreciate the different amount of genres out there. I also started a music blog in August 2018; so if you like reading interesting takes on music and concert opinions, then give it a glance.
