This week's track is a throwback from Weezer's classic self-titled "Green Album." The addicting summer anthem, "Island In The Sun," is a potent rock song that expresses the longing for an escape of everyday life (towards paradise). Thus, the message of the song could either be alluding to getting high off drugs or these guys just really needed a vacation (maybe even both). Anyway, all the band members brought their A-game in the production of this song. Leading vocalist and guitarist of Weezer, Rivers Cuomo, did a brilliant job of capturing the emotion of a man yearning for freedom and bliss.
Also, the whole band did a phenomenal job of crafting a catchy tune with the instrumental. The guitar chord progressions are ear candy and sound even better when complemented by the crisp percussion done by Patrick Wilson. Although the guitars get pretty loud for a picnic at the 2nd and 3rd choruses, these climaxes only last for a few seconds each before going back to the original, softer instrumental. In my opinion, the grand guitars just make the track even more relaxing. The sudden transition from the rowdy guitars drowning out the band's vocals to Cuomo's heavenly voice gliding over the softer chord progression feels like a release of tension. Overall, this track is the perfect summer rock anthem to lay back to and another one of Weezer's masterpieces.
