I found Daniel Caesar's 2019 project, CASE STUDY 01, to be a pretty enjoyable R&B album. In my opinion, the best song on the project is "CYANIDE." "CYANIDE" is a laid-back, reggae-infused r&b track that I like to listen to on warm days to relax.
The producers, Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans, did a superb job of combining elements of reggae and r&b seamlessly through minimal instrumentation. For instance, the offbeat, staccato piano chords give the song a reggae feel, while the soft drum rhythm provides the track with some r&b flavor as well. Also, the sweet and harmonious background vocals are a beautiful addition to the record (ironically, the song is called "CYANIDE").
Daniel Caesar does a fantastic job of riding the beat with his soothing vocals. Additionally, Daniel pays tribute to his Jamaican roots by incorporating patois into his lyrics. The seamless incorporation of patois complements the reggae-like production and gives the record more authenticity.
Overall, "CYANIDE" is a superb song with a very relaxing atmosphere that would complement a picnic on a warm and sunny day.
