Welcome to the creators of YONI. Lush arrangements of instrumental and lyrical versatility embodies the divinity of their art in all of its most empowering pieces. What we don't understand intrigues us and at the core I think we all crave to understand why art - especially in the form of music - is so emotionally tethered to our roots. The diversity of their ensemble is sure to tingle your curious taste buds of the musical feast they have to offer.
Led by multi-instrumentalist and songwriting guru Yoni Arbel (guitar, saxophone, raps), the group consists of Jon GK (violin, keys, vocals), Sean Alexander (bass) and Mekala Session (drums). As an ensemble - they are YONI.
The track “Chill Out” naturally flows alongside the thoughts of my most recent artist, Nat Lefkoff. With words spoken in gentle rhyme, Yoni proclaims “Maintain a sane, serene demeanor / Gleaning from a teeming brain / cognition can be dissonant / Tell me know, what do you think / Is there such thing as permanence?” Tethered to our minds we are bound to the existential questioning surrounding this life. It is eternal and universal yet wildly diversified and controversial.
Drenched with influences of poetic language arranged amongst hip hop, jazz, and world music - their creations are transformative in igniting the mind, body and soul in an experience that taps into small spaces of creativity that are normally explored separately if ever at all. Possibly the most beautiful and wondrous pieces of their music is when Yoni begins rapping in Hebrew. Lyrically it feels like an isolated afternoon rain entering the roots of a tree in the desert. It channels the mind to listen deeper and absorb the foreign words not often explored in our desert of musical creations. We are thirsting for diversity in everything and to listen with intention and awareness of what we are consuming feels like a lost art. We absorb music through every part of our being like a melodic sponge. That being said a silly song can be just as powerful if it is able to enhance your spirit in feeling more alive. When did you last take the time to recognize when you felt this kind of musical euphoria?
Yoni’s voice will continue to grow and flourish, absorbing the wisdom of each changing moment like that of a thousand year old tree. Your roots are always welcome in this musical garden.

About The Curator - Maria Fish
You can most often find Maria in her garden humming along to an eclectic playlist titled “Life’s a Garden, Dig It” and of course tending to her beloved plants. This garden is located on the island of Kaua’i at her childhood home surrounded by tropical fruit trees and flowers. Beautiful music has always gone hand in hand with the beauty of the island. Just as she nurtures her plants, she looks forward to nurturing this playlist and the community of music lovers that feel like stopping by and having a listen.
If you are someone in need of a creative who knows a few things about digital marketing and audience growth - then I am your gal :)
