In these uncertain, unprecedented, and unfathomable times, it’s always good to be surrounded by the familiar. It can ground you when everything else is floating away. Quitting your job is probably not a thought on many people’s minds these days, with sky high unemployment and the introduction of the word “furlough” into our vocabulary. This playlist is about more than quitting a job, it’s about quitting the stagnant behaviors that may be pulling you away from your potential, your happiness. It’s about self-fulfillment and leveling up without barriers.
Taking these two concepts in mind (being surrounded by the familiar as you strive for the unfamiliar), I present our track of the month: BOSS by The Carters. Of course, we know them better as our musical superheroes Beyoncé and Jay-Z. If their success seems unattainable, it probably is. Let’s be real. It’s THEIR success, not yours. Still, this track is at the same time inspirational and scolding. Beyoncé and Jay-Z play good cop / bad cop, pushing you to a confession to do better. Save your excuses:
You ain't talkin' 'bout nothin', I ain't got no time / Got that dinero on my mind / Ohh, I got real problems just like you
And don’t talk about it, be about it:
Everybody's bosses 'til it's time to pay for the office / 'Til them invoices separate the men, from the boys / Over here we measure success by how many people successful next to you / Here we say you broke if everybody is broke except for you
Finally, set your sights on the endgame to keep focus and motivation high. The view from the top is attainable:
Ain't nothing to it, I bossed up out my momma whip / My great-great-grandchildren already rich / That's a lot of brown children on your Forbes list / Frolickin' around my compound on my fortress, boss
Use this pause in life to formulate and strategize. Time to be your own BOSS.

About the Curator - Ben Young:
Ben Young lives a life of polarity. He has split his life between the coasts: half his life on the West (California) and half on the East (Georgia and Virginia). He has pursued careers in the art world (film school graduate) and the corporate world (executive with Fortune 500 companies). And he is Biracial, the personification of being two things at once.
Ben’s musical influences were formed by music loving parents, raised in a world of John Coltrane and John Lennon, James Taylor and James Ingram, Huey Lewis and the News and Prince and the Revolution. Saxophones, electric guitars, synthesizers, and breakbeats filled the air Ben breathed from birth. And being born one year after the birth of Hip Hop, Ben has been joined at the hip with the genre his entire life.
