No Games is an collaborative electro afro beat song which features a variety of artists namely; Sho Madjozi, Moonchild Sanelly, Ghetts, Radio 123, POTE & Muzi. The song features on the organisations fifth album titled EGOLI. “Egoli translates from Xhosa as “city of gold”, a fitting title for an album that offers its riches so freely” – Q Magazine.
The organisation travelled to South Africa in January last year to complete an electronic album in just 7 days, a week of discovery, collaboration and music-making. The result is EGOLI – 18 tracks capturing the fresh, joyous sounds of Afro Futurism, straight out of Johannesburg.
Africa Express is a UK based non-profit organization that facilitates cross-cultural collaborations between musicians in African, Middle Eastern, and Western countries. It seeks to help African musicians break beyond the stigmas and prejudices of the term 'world music', while presenting a positive impression of Africa to counter against common media images of war, famine, and disease.
Africa Express was founded in 2006 to promote the concept of musical collaboration that breaks down boundaries and borders, whether between geographical regions, genres or generations. It has hosted a series of remarkable adventures that have won praise from artists, audiences and critics alike. These include five trips bringing together artists in Africa, four acclaimed albums and a series of inventive and highly-original shows in Britain, Europe and Africa. Past projects include a train tour around the United Kingdom as part of the 2012 Olympic festivities, playing the New Shrine in Lagos, performing to 50,000 people on a beach in Spain, staging the first show in front of Paris’s Hotel de Ville, reforming a 50-strong Syrian orchestra and recording the only African version of Terry Riley’s contemporary classic In C.
‘EGOLI’ is a scattershot and hedonistic diary of the collective’s week-long recording sessions, and each song offers an insight into the vibrant sounds of Johannesburg and the city’s unique twist on house, folk, jazz and beyond.
Featured artists include: BCUC, Blk Jks, Blue May, Damon Albarn, DJ Spoko, Dominowe, FAKA, Georgia, Ghetts, Gruff Rhys, Infamous Boiz, Mahotella Queens, Moonchild Sanelly, Morena Leraba, Mr Jukes, Muzi, Nick Zinner, Nonku Phiri, Otim Alpha, Phuzekhemisi, Poté, Radio 123, Remi Kabaka, Sho Madjozi, Sibot, Zola 7 and Zolani Mahola.
