Like Tu Danz is an Afrobeats song by Ghanaian-British based producer and Disc Jockey, Juls which features Ms Banks, Kida Kudz & PA Salieu which is off his newly released innovative project called ‘Colour’ EP. The London-born DJ and producer was raised in England and Accra, Ghana. During the early 2010s, he got deeply into beatmaking after a period of casual interest.
He's produced music for some of the biggest acts around including Lauryn Hill, Burna Boy, GoldLink, Tyler the Creator, Masego, Wande Coal and more. Juls started his own Collective dubbed LOF. Juls started making beats at 22 in college influenced by a lot of boom bap and soul influence siting J Dilla and Kanye West as his idols. Over the years he has perfected his sound merging his African influences dictating a minimalistic sound to the Afropop sound.
Juls’ production has a lightness of touch, free from the clutter of instruments that still dominates much of Afrobeats. Juls prefers the term “Afro Swing” for his brand of music, just when he’d come around to the term “alternative afrobeats.” Juls explains that “Afro Swing,” refers to the jump between genres (afrobeats, r&b, neo-soul, and bashment, amongst others).
When asked on his thought on the meteoric rise of Afrobeats in today’s culture, the producer stated:
“I feel like it’s been long overdue but at the same time, we also need to protect our culture and not let everybody infiltrate in it. But it’s a good time for us, we should just make use of the opportunities that come our way. There’s no time for egos, greed and stuff like that. When we want to make it happen we make it happen. That’s the space that I’m in at the moment.”
