“Traveling swallowing Dramamine”
Throughout “Dramamine” the listener is treated to twirling, smooth guitar tones and trenchant vocals backed by a downtempo rhythm able to stir the mind into a piercing lull. Named after an anti-nauseant and motion sickness opioid drug with side-effects of mood-altering drowsiness, “Dramamine” accordingly takes the listener out of whatever emotional, motion sickness-filled reality that they possess and into a trancelike state of sweeping tonal tide pools.
The lyrics of the song imply the recreational use of Dramamine, which usually only comes from a state some sort of deep seated desperation. The song takes the listener to a place of their own cathartic desperation and almost extortionately pulls the emotions of the listener to a sprawl of full emotional extension which would make sense to hurt to feel but somehow comforts. “Dramamine” is tired, “Dramamine” is alive.
“We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves”
“Dramamine” is a song about the hope of heartbreak and the comfort in angst, about the weird sense of joy in moments which don’t really seem to deserve it but also feel it more authentically than anything else. Somehow this song about misuse of an over-the-counter drug is able to puncture deep into the soul. Featured on the album “A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About”, the song captures the peace of endless open highway reflection.
“Dramamine” reminds the listener of the beauty of the totality of experience, especially the bittersweet. This song is for anyone stuck in bed or anywhere else.
