Most bands change their sound over time either due to change in their line-up or by adapting to emerging technology which they use to make new music. Band of Horses, however, stays true to its Alternative roots, never disappointing the millions of fans that tune into their music for the sentiments and imagery that only alternative rock can offer. From 2006 when their album Everything All the Time that featured their most popular track till date The Funeral was released, to 2016 when they released their latest album why are you OK, Band of Horses has only produced fine music in the genre that resonates deeply with its listeners.
Lying Under Oak is a special choice from the latest album that features twelve beautiful and delicate songs. This track--like much of the album--is melancholic, easy and nostalgic--both in sentiment and sound. This ballad is pretty: it has the imagery of thoughtfulness and advice, made perfect with the absence of reciprocation that makes such music so inherently familiar and identifiable. Even so, there is a certain warmth in the track and a sense of abandoned despondency. It makes for a perfect 'pick me up' and 'let me wallow' track.
