This playlist has been a weird mix of music from across genres, cultures, languages and regions. There is one thing that ties it all though--something that I was always aware of, in some abstract academic sense, but for which I now have actual evidence.
One could travel anywhere in the world, to the remotest corners with the weirdest languages and most different looking people. But as human beings, our range of emotions has limits. We can swing like a pendulum from one extreme to the other, experiencing all that that rainbow has to offer, but somewhere somebody else (think millions) would be experiencing the same emotion at the same time. And what drives me crazy (in a good way) is that some people chose to write about it and put it to music for those others to share, take refuge in and perhaps enjoy.
This is why, I do not challenge quotes and idioms that say "art binds people" -- corny, hell yes! But it is the absolute truth. I mean how else would one explain the effect that the Beatles' music had on the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union.
This week's artist, while has no claim of such immense repute yet, nonetheless represents all that is said above. The Paper Kites is an alternative rock and from the Land Down Under. Electric Indigo features on their second album. The track appears to cry out for its protagonist's (an artist's) inspiration that has held him locked behind their eyes. The track has a fascinating electro-indie sound to it, that has the listener hooked right from the beginning. And then the lyrics come in that create an air of something lost and missed, but really something that had been once possessed.
If you're looking for your lost inspiration, Electric Indigo is the track for you.
