You can either love or hate the synthesizers in Depeche Mode’s earlier works, but rest assured, it doesn’t get as quirky here as in “Just Can’t Get Enough”. Still, “Everything Counts” will easily become an earworm thanks to its very simple and fun rhythm.

I adore the contrast of the pretty bitter lyrics and Martin Gore’s angelic voice. Oh, and also the fact that the track was recorded at the Hansa Studio near Potsdamer Platz, home to many a good record. Um, and also “Mambo nr 5”. Told you I liked contrasts.
